Sport at TVZ

Sport is an integral part of student life at Zagreb University of Applied Sciences (TVZ). TVZ students have taken part in organised student sports competitions since the 2005/2006 academic year, when the TVZ Student Sports Association was founded under the Croatian Sports Act.

TVZ Student Sports Association (SUS TVZ)

The association covers all sports activities at TVZ. It sends students to competitions at local, national and international level, promotes a healthy lifestyle and lifelong physical activity, and organises trips, rafting and paintball. Students can also join dance, sailing and skiing schools.

Competitions

• UniSport ZG — the university sports championship of the City of Zagreb.
• UniSport HR / UniSport Finals — the national student championship; the best teams and athletes qualify for European and world university competitions.
• STEM Games — a student competition and festival where students compete in both knowledge and sport.
• TVZ Sports Days — internal competitions organised by the physical education teachers together with student athletes (futsal, 3×3 basketball, table tennis and other sports).
• Esports — the TVZ esports team competes in the Student Esports Tournament (SET) and in the esports events of UniSport and STEM Games.

Competitions run throughout the academic year, from 1 October to 30 September of the following year.

Highlights

• The TVZ handball team won the bronze medal at the 10th World InterUniversities Championships in Barcelona (November 2025), competing against 21 university teams.
• At UniSport Finals 2024 in Poreč, the TVZ handball team won gold and qualified for the European competition, alongside medals in table tennis, chess, beach volleyball and esports.
• At the 2018 national championship in Rovinj, TVZ students became Croatian champions in men’s tennis and qualified for the European Universities Championships.
• Student Mario Vavro won bronze in archery at the Summer Universiade in Taipei in 2017.
• In 2025 the Croatian Academic Sports Federation recognised Boris Metikoš, PhD, as the best physical education teacher in higher education.
