The effect of increasing the concentration of Zr-based conversion coating on the topography of the steel surface
Sažetak
The effect of increasing the concentration of Zr-based conversion coating on the topography of the steel surface. Conversion coating based on zirconium is a novel eco-friendly pre-treatment process used to prolong corrosion durability in many applications. The chemically modified surface can simplify the production of metal products of high requirements for anti-corrosion. In this paper, an examination of the influence of the change in the concentration of the conversion coating medium on the morphological and corrosion properties of the substrate was made. The surface formed by the zirconium-based conversion coating varies systematically by changing the concentration parameter. In addition to the influence of concentration, the influence of the duration of contact between the metal surface and the medium was determined. The study was conducted on epoxy-polyester coated steel surfaces, with 3 different medium concentrations of Zr-based conversion coating. Surface characterization was determined using AFM, SEM and EDS mapping techniques, EIS and humidity chamber test. The results confirmed the hypothesis about the influence of the change in Zr-concentration on the morphological and corrosion properties of the steel substrate.
