Supporting multiuser multitouch interaction on tablet utilizing a split screen approach

This paper presents a novel approach to using tablets by dividing a touchscreen into several independent segments and enabling simultaneous interaction of multiple users with a single device. This solution supports the display of more than two independent segments on the same device, and each segment can be easily and independently rotated, with content oriented according user's preferences. The feasibility of our approach is evidenced by the implementation of two tablet mobile applications that provide both individual and collaborative educational activities, which have been evaluated with primary school pupils.
