RP8-24 – Microwave Transceiver for Radio Links
Sažetak
The paper describes the development and characteristics of the RP8-24 microwave transceiver for outdoor radio links. The transceiver was developed at the end of the 1960s at the Radio Industry Zagreb (RIZ) in cooperation with the Department of High Frequency Techniques of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Zagreb (ETF). The RP8-24 was a modern telecommunication device for the transmission of 24 PCM channels by radio and in terms of its performance was comparable to similar devices in Europe and the world at that time. In spite of its successful implementation, the production of the RP8-24 transceiver was shut down by a political decision and the existing units have been decommissioned and scrapped. The development team was disbanded and the design and production documentation mostly lost. Today it exists only in fragments in private collections and archives. Therefore, this paper is an attempt to preserve the memory of the achievement of Croatian engineers, which, at the time, could have been successful even at world level.
