Cultural monuments are the most valuable part of cultural heritage because they are inseparable part of human surroundings. According to quality, number and diversity, the fund of cultural monuments in Croatia has a great significance. This article deals with questions how to preserve the architectural heritage of Zagreb in its integrity and authenticity, in particular those sites, which were, built between the two World Wars. Those achievements of Zagreb Modern Movement architecture can be compared with European but the current state of many buildings reveal advanced decay. It is necessary to improve systematic historical and architectural surveys ; protective planning measures and conservation approaches, based on internationally approved scientific principles. Belonging and continuity to European culture can be displayed on the example of Croatian Modern Movement architecture, which is important part of our past, as well as a potential key factor for achieving national identity in the European culture context.
