Numerical and experimental investigation of basic properties of wire-medium-based shortened horn antennas

This paper deals with shortening of a horn antenna with the help of wire-based metamterials. It has been shown both numerically and experimentally that is possible to construct a horn, length of which is only 33% of the length of an optimal horn with the gain equal to the gain of an optimal horn but within a narrow bandwidth.
