Sažetak

Two element active array for quasi-optical power combining is presented. Each array element consists of an active one-port (Gunn diode) integrated in a modified rectangular patch. The odification consists of a rectangular opening in the patch in which the active element is placed. This modification assures better defined antenna excitation point and results in low cross-polarization levels. Two active patches are integrated in active arrays in E and H plane. Both arrays operate in X band. Mutual synchronisation between the array elements is achieved mainly by radiative coupling. Beam scanning is obtained by changing the bias voltage. For the E plane array a scanning of 40 degrees around broadside is demonstrated, while for the H plane array a scanning of 27 degrees is obtained. Power combining efficiency for both cases is better than 93 percent.
