Sažetak

In underwater wet welding, the type of water environment, also has a decisive influence on the selection of the welding parameters. If the water contains ions, dissipation (i.e. the discharge of load carriers) may arise depending on the chemical composition, thus leading to a higher electric conductivity and to current losses. Correspondingly, it is possible to observe smaller penetration depths and a lower weld quality. Therefore, welding tests were performed in fresh water and sea water using three different electrodes. The surfaces and geometries of the welds were then examined. It was shown that a considerably rougher weld surface with smaller penetration occurs during welding in salt water. In this case, the amperage should be aprox. 10 to 15% higher than is customary for welding in fresh water.
