Sažetak

The K490 Microclean tool steel was developed for hardening and tempering applications with the possibility of additional nitriding in plasma, gas or salt. Its application includes cold working tools and polymer processing tools. The paper analyzes the influence of the choice of austenitization temperature, deep cryogenic treatment (DCT) and high temperature tempering on the hardness of K490MC steel. Plasma nitriding was performed on test specimens with a maximum hardness of 64 HRC to 65 HRC achieved after quenching, DCT and high temperature tempering. The formation of a nitrided layer further increased the surface hardness. The choice of austenitization temperature and the application of DCT showed a significant influence on the surface hardness and tempering resistance.
