Austenitic Cr-Ni stainless steels due to their good mechanical properties as well as corrosion resistance properties are important group of construction materials. But, as a consequence of plastic deformation, for instance cold forming, there is a possibility of their single phase austenitic structure transformation which result in incurrence of deformation induced martensite. The consequences are significant loss of their mechanical properties, brittleness and fracture. This paper shows the case studies of real damages as a result of deformation induced martensite phenomena.
