Five Years of Hascheck

The Croatian Academic Spelling Checker, or Hascheck, is a telematic service embedded in E-mail. It is also the first Croatian expert syistem with wide public use. Hascheck interacts permanently with its environment, receiving texts from it, processing them, and sending back reports to users. It acquires knowlwdge through this interaction. As a program, Hascheck is a learning semiautomaton. This paper presents five-year life and development of the syistem, giving the emphasis on its learning abilities.
