Ethno-ecological villages as a model of rural tourism development in Croatia
Sažetak
Croatia, as a whole, has great potentials for development of various forms of rural tourism. In this article we lay stress on ethno- ecological villages as an unexploited, but very lucrative model for development of tourism in rural areas. The realisation of this model would provide opportunity not only for various forms of traditional tourist business but also for different kinds of all-year-round profitable exploitation. For example, some villages could become "sanctuaries" for third age people or married couples with or without children, both from Croatia and abroad who would avail themselves of the benefits of hospitality in Dalmatian rural environment. The idea is that targeted population ( in this case senior tourists ) would live there all year round or even for several years, enjoying an environment which is healthier, cheaper and with a far better climate than in their own domicile urban aglomerates from all over the world. Active participating in farm works would provide them with far better and purposeful passtime, while living in a rural environment with all its benefits would ensure both, physical and mental health and longevity.
