Basics of underwater wet welding are briefly reported, a particular attention being paid to the topic of filler materials for underwater manual arc welding. Research activities in development of filler material for underwater wet manual arc welding has been also reported. Different types of waterproof coating have been tested in combination with several types of electrodes, the evaluation criterion being the weld quality and operating properties of the electrodes. Certain conclusions related to the quality of waterproof coatings, their effects upon the content of hydrogen in weld metal and operating properties have been made. Also, the most acceptable combination coating-electrode among the tested ones has been found.
