Effect of Application of Deep-cryogenic Treatment on the Pproperties of High Speed Steel PM S390 MC

Darko Landek

Sažetak

With deep cryogenic treatment (DCT) and proper tempering of hardened high-speed steel it is possible to further improve its propertie obtained by the conventional heat treatment. The paper describes the application of dilatometer in the analysis of microstructural phenomena in the tempering of hardened PM S390 MC high-speed steel with and without the application of DCT. The influence of DCT on the hardness and dimension changes of the steel during the high temperature tempering is analysed. Based on the obtained results, an optimal heat treatment process will be proposed to achieve the maximum hardness of PM S390 MC high-speed steel.
