Computation of Propagation Characteristics of Multilayer Optical Fibers

The paper presents a program for calculating the propagation constants and electromagnetic field distribution of modes in general multilayer optical fiber. Furthermore, the program also calculates chromatic dispersion for single-mode fiber. The program is based on numerical calculation of spectral domain Green's function for circular-cylindrical multilayer structure. The abilities of the program are demonstrated on computing the properties of the step index single-clad, double-clad and triple-clad optical fibers which are used as dispersion shifted fibers, and of graded-index fibers.
