Challenges in the design of wearable textile antennas
Sažetak
The lecture presents the basic principles of body- centric communications at low and high frequencies(in-body, on-body, off-body), with focus on communication via electromagnetic waves at high frequencies (UHF and ISM 2.4 range). The human body is show to act as a hostile medium for propagation of electromagnetic waves since large portion of electromagnetic energy from the antenna is absorbed by human body. This is further explained by modeling the coupling between antenna and human body through the slot, as well as propagation through creeping waves. In addition, the influence of body movement and antenna bending onto communication together with antenna behavior in extreme weather conditions are analyzed. Finally, the strategy of design of wearable antennas using embroidered conductive textiles is presented.
