Sažetak
This paper introduces automated waste collection system (AWCS) to Croatia, a technology that has yet to be adopted in the country. Traditional methods of waste management, especially in urban and densely populated areas, present challenges such as inefficiency, high operating costs and negative environmental impacts. Automated waste vacuum systems offer a modern, efficient alternative, using underground pipelines to transport waste to centralized collection points, significantly reducing the need for conventional waste trucks. The paper focuses on the technological, economic and ecological aspects of the adoption of this system in Croatia. Both advantages, such as urban cleanliness and quality of life, and disadvantages, such as cost of implementing the system are addressed in the paper. The paper ends with recommendations for a pilot project that would facilitate the introduction of automated vacuum systems for waste in Croatian cities.
