Artificial Neural Networks Applications in Power Systems

Paper gives a brief survey of artificial neural networks applications in power systems hitherto. Neural networks characteristics, advantages and drawbacks are considered, and some new and promising areas of recent investigations are mentioned. ANN abilities that justify their application in power systems are presented, along with examples of three major application areas - load forecasting, security assessment and power system control.
