Sažetak

The article gives a summary of the state-of-the-art in the area of ship"s exposure to sensor detection, with special reference to ship"s acoustic susceptibility. Ship"s acoustic signature, as one of the most important ship"s physical signatures, is analysed, with special reference being given to the conventional ship propeller propulsion. The relationship between propeller propulsion and water jet propulsion with respect to the magnitude of radiated noise at different sailing speeds will be separately analysed. The paper results in the classification of the noise sources of a conventional ship with propeller propulsion and in the ship"s radiated noise spectra in relation to the typical noise of the Adriatic Sea. It also points to the trend towards the variation of radiated noise with the introduction of new propulsion types. The paper also summarises the existing situation concerning the capabilities of passive sonars to detect a ship and the efforts that are being taken to decrease ship"s acoustic susceptibility.
