Sažetak

Due to the impending energy crisis, the EC has published the REPowerEU (COM (2022) 108), which encourages an increased production of biogas and biomethane by 20 % in the EU member states, with the aim of increasing their energy independence. Furthermore, within its working group Bioenergy Task 37, IEA sets the task to ensure a sustainable production of biogas by using alternative raw materials to corn silage in the upcoming period (2021-2024). Due to the positive energy balance, a change from annual to perennial energy crops, such as Arundo donax L. is being encouraged, having in mind its high potential of growing on marginal land. The objective of this research was to determine the biogas/biomethane potential of corn silage, Arundo donax L., and their mixtures in the ratios of 1:2 and 2:1, respectively in the mesophilic continuous AD systems, in order to define the optimum conditions and the effect of corn silage substitution. The results have shown that a complete substitution of corn silage with A. donax L. results with a biogas potential of up to 1.4 m3 t DM-1 and a biodegradability rate of approx. 90 %.
