Sažetak
This paper explores the application of business intelligence systems for forecasting future business performance, with a particular emphasis on sales-related financial outcomes and the utilization of Microsoft Power BI. The theoretical section provides an overview of the historical development of business intelligence, tracing its evolution from inception to the present day. To facilitate a deeper understanding of the technology, the study examines Microsoft Power BI and Tableau, focusing on their integration methods, functionalities, and comparative advantages. Additionally, the paper outlines concepts and models of modern database systems, which serve as the foundation for effective data analysis. The empirical part of the research is based on actual sales data from the company Oprema Micro Matic d.o.o., covering the period from 2021 to 2024. The paper details the process of exporting sales data from the GOSoft ERP system, followed by its import and transformation (Extract, Transform, Load) within Microsoft Power BI, employing various Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) functions.
The primary objective is to assess the accuracy of forecasting future sales financial results using Microsoft Power BI, considering different historical data sets, and to determine the impact of dataset length on forecast precision. To this end, three reports were generated, each comparing predicted sales financial results for the reference year 2024 using distinct historical transaction sets: (1) 2021–2023, (2) 2022–2023, and (3) 2023 only. The analysis demonstrates that all forecasts achieved high accuracy, ranging from 87% to 96%, depending on the dataset, thereby confirming the proposed hypotheses.
