Ultraviolet radiation: protection and applications

Filip Žugčić

Sažetak

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum of radiation with wavelength longer than that of X-rays and shorter than visible light. The main natural source of UV radiation is the Sun which is very important for the process of photosynthesis and the production of vitamin D in the body. Excessive exposure to UV radiation can cause damage to the skin and eyes, or it can damage DNA, which can lead to health risks such as skin cancer. We first describe the properties, types and sources of UV radiation, then we explain the application, benefits and consequences of UV radiation with a special emphasis on protection against UV radiation
