Overview of filaments with the addition of glass fibers in FDM additive production

Alan Divjak

Sažetak

Additive manufacturing, particularly FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) technology, has seen significant development in recent years thanks to the continuous advancement of materials for 3D printing. One important group of materials consists of filaments reinforced with glass fibers, which enable improvements in mechanical properties, stiffness, and dimensional stability compared to standard polymer filaments. The aim of this paper was to analyze the current market offering of glass fiber-reinforced filaments intended for FDM technology. Based on a review of relevant internet sources and user communities, thirteen manufacturers of such materials were identified. For each filament, basic parameters were analyzed, including the type of polymer matrix, glass fiber content, availability of technical data, and market price. The results showed that the most commonly used polymer bases are polyamides (PA6 and PA12), while PETG, PCTG, and other thermoplastics are represented to a lesser extent. The glass fiber content in the analyzed filaments most commonly ranges between 10% and 30%. The obtained results indicate the diversity of the market for glass fiber-reinforced filaments and confirm their potential for application in various engineering and industrial fields.
