In this paper, the influence of powder-pack boriding parameters on the properties of austenitic stainless steel X2CrNiMo17-12-2 (AISI 316L) was investigated. The boriding process was performed in a resistance furnace “Pika” with automatic temperature control using the boriding powder DURBORID G. The process was carried out at temperatures of 850 °C and 950 °C with treatment durations of 2, 3 and 4 hours. The formed boride layers were characterized through microstructural analysis using optical microscopy, while the microhardness of the borided surface was determined by the Vickers method. In addition, the effect of boriding parameters on the corrosion behavior of X2CrNiMo17-12-2 stainless steel was evaluated in a 3.5% NaCl solution prepared with distilled water using the DC potentiostatic polarization technique. The obtained results enabled the assessment of the relationship between boriding temperature, treatment duration, and the resulting surface properties of the investigated steel.
