INTEGRATION OF IoT, SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS AND COMPUTER VISION IN WORKPLACE HAZARD DETECTION

Filip Žugčić

Sažetak

Modern approaches to occupational safety rely on advanced technologies such as
the Internet of Things (IoT), video surveillance systems and computer vision, the integration of
which creates intelligent systems for real-time hazard detection. IoT sensors deployed throughout
the workplace continuously collect data on the presence of hazardous substances, temperature
extremes, noise levels and other environmental parameters, while surveillance cameras equipped with
computer vision algorithms automatically recognize risky situations such as improper use of protective
equipment, unauthorized access to dangerous zones or employees falling. The system analyzes the
collected data in real time, correlates it and generates automated warnings to responsible personnel,
which significantly shortens the reaction time and reduces the likelihood of an accident. The paper
considers the architecture of such an integrated system, technical requirements for its implementation,
and key challenges such as privacy protection, reliability of algorithms in difficult working conditions,
and compliance with current European and Croatian occupational safety regulations.
