Sažetak

A new bridge is currently built parallel to and south of the Rječina Bridge of the Rijeka city roundabout. The new Rječina Bridge is a prestressed concrete rigid strut frame structure with the box type superstructure. The superstructure is continuous over three spans, with the main span of 108.5 m and with two identical side spans of 50.0 m each. Its new design exemplifies more stringent requirements on bridge structures, incorporated in current structural standards in comparison to standards valid about thirty years ago. The bridge construction started in spring 2008 by two different construction companies, each building half of the bridge and utilizing their own technology. Side spans are constructed on scaffolding and the main centre span by free cantilevering method. The Zvir water spring, supplying the Rijeka city with fresh water, is located underneath the bridge limiting the choice of possible construction methods. A special anchor block connected by prestressing tendons to the anchor wall had to be built to facilitate the free cantilever construction of the main centre span, instead of standard rock anchors, because their grouting was forbidden in order not to endanger the quality of water from the spring.
