Sažetak
The "International Scientific Conference on Contemporary Glass Facades – Zagreb 2024" was jointly organized by the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb and the company KFK d.o.o. The Conference represents a continuation of the successful collaboration between a scientific institution and a private company. The aim of the Conference was to bring together experts from the scientific, research and business sectors to present the latest developments in construction, architecture, technology, design, engineering, energy efficiency, and the future of glazed facades. Architects, engineers, designers, stakeholders and researchers will exchange experiences and ideas in the field of the Conference's topics. The objective of this conference series is to establish a platform for dialogue among researchers, builders, designers and other relevant parties. It is reassuring that the number of papers presented continues to rise upon the primary focus of the conference, which is the delicate medium that unites and divides architectural spaces, specifically the layer between interior and outdoor spaces. The Conference was divided into two parts. The first part featured the presentation of the project Development of a double facade with a hermetically sealed cavity (H-CCF), implemented by the company KFK d.o.o. in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb as a scientific partner. In the second part, scientists from various countries presented a wide range of topics related to glazed facades. The “Proceedings of the International Scientific Conference on Contemporary Glass Facades - Zagreb 2024” presents a specific review of contemporary trends in design glass facades through three key approaches: technical solutions, the application of advanced technologies, and the aesthetic and ecological integration of facades within urban space. Conference papers present design methodologies, materials, and technologies that are meticulously chosen to provide maximum fluidity, facilitating a transition between the built and natural environments. They provide a compendium of information, lessons learned, and insights for future considerations about the application of envelope systems. Challenges such as climate loads, internal pressures, and the ratio of transparent and opaque surfaces are examined, analyzing examples of cylindrical curved insulated glass units. Application of advanced technologies, such as additive manufacturing and parametric design, offers new solutions for optimizing and adapting facades to changing environmental conditions. On the other hand, methods like “shadow box” panels and temporary air-filled add–ons enable better regulation of indoor climate conditions and enhance the energy efficiency of existing buildings. The aesthetics and environmental integration of glass facades in urban contexts are investigated in case studies from the Zagreb Fair, where glass shapes the identity of buildings and contributes to their symbolic value. The "International Scientific Conference on Contemporary Glass Facades – Zagreb 2024" successfully concluded its second edition and has established itself as a recurring scientific event.
