It can be said that the embark of the term Internet of Things started with the adjusted Coca Cola sweets automat in 1982, at the Carnegie Mellon University. It started with a purpose to make a new concept or system of numerous devices which are interconnected and are making a single network. This is particularly important when it comes to energy efficiency considering that current worlds consumption of energy is more than million terajoules on daily basis.
To address this problem, scientists have started inventing systems and appliances which can monitor usage of the energy spent by devices in your home to conserve energy. With the advancement in the Artificial Intelligence area and machine to machine communication where devices and appliances are constantly connected improved drastically the efficiency of the smart home systems.
This thesis paper will talk about in what ways the Internet of Things in Energy Management can improve efficiency, increase cost savings, increase reliability of power supply, provide a necessary data that can help with monitoring of the energy consumption, it will also explain the terms like KNX system, it will go over the existing companies like Verv and Kinestral, what kind of product they have and in which way do they use their technology to get society familiar with IoT. Finally, the survey will be conducted which will examine the people habits and willingness of making a change in their consumer point of view.
