Numerical investigation of the wave pattern and resistance of the naval combatant INSEAN 2340 model
Sažetak
The purpose of this paper is to perform a detailed analysis of the applicability study of two numerical methods, the boundary element method and the control volume method, in the investigation of the wave pattern and resistance of the naval combatant INSEAN 2340 model. Our own computer program for the nonlinear ship wave resistance problem has been developed based on the RAPID (Raised-Panel-Iterative-Dawson) method developed at MARIN. The speed of the calculation gives certain flexibility and a wide range of the ship hull parameters can be rapidly and easily covered. The commercial CFD package FLUENT 6.1.22 has been used for the control volume method. The extensive investigation of certain parameters of the CFD package has been performed in order to achieve better results and to gain experience for future numerical flow simulations around ship forms. Comparison of the results obtained by the two numerical methods with the available experimental results, for the Froude number range 0, 2-0, 4136, has been carried out. The applicability estimation of each method regarding the time consumed and results that can be obtained by using it has been performed as well.
