Electromagnetic and Mechanical Performance Comparison of Various Solid-Rotor Induction Machine Topologies
Sažetak
In this paper, a brief overview of various solid-rotor induction machines is provided, and four machine topologies for high-speed applications are comprehensively analysed and compared. These include a standard smooth solid-rotor (SSRIM), an axially slitted solid-rotor (ASSRIM), and an axially slitted solid-rotor induction machine with copper or aluminium endrings. Firstly, an electromagnetic finite element analysis of the above topologies was carried out. Due to the challenging mechanical requirements for the robustness of high-speed machines, mechanical stress simulations were also performed for each of the topologies and it was successfully shown that they withstand the generated stresses. Similarly, vibrations at natural frequencies pose a particular problem. Therefore, the calculation of the critical speeds of the considered rotor topologies was carried out in an appropriate program and the results were formally evaluated.
