Sažetak

Design and experimental results of a two element active array for quasi-optical power combining are presented. Each element in the array consists of an active device integrated in a modified rectangular patch. A rectangular opening in the patch has been made to improve the impedance niatching of the active device, to assure better defined excitation point of the patch, and to decrease cross-polarisation levels. The overall Q of the antenna is reduced, thus allowing a wide band frequency tuning by changing the bias voltage. Patch parameters are optimized by using a moment method procedure. Two of these patches are integrated in an active array in H plane. Mutual synchronization was achieved mainly by electromagnetic coupling. A tuning range of more than 400 MHz at oscillation frequency 9.8 GHz and EIRP of 780 mW are obtained with two patch array. Electronic beam steering of 27 degrees in broadside direction was demonstrated.
